The Miami and Erie Canal: Past, Present and Future. September 20- Neal Brady
In the early years of Ohio statehood, the canal brought economic development to our region by opening the wilderness to modern travel. The canal, which cuts through Auglaize County, is still very much in use today for recreation. Join Neal, director for the Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association, as he takes us on a journey through time along the Miami and Erie Canal.
Dig In: Geology of Auglaize County- October 18- Mark Kleffner
Professor Mark Kleffner from The Ohio State University- Lima will share the story of the geological history of the sediments and rocks comprising the Auglaize County landscape including glaciers and the sea that once covered this area. Mark’s hands-on presentation includes samples to help bring to life the geological history. You are encouraged to bring in fossils and rocks to have identified following his presentation.
Hiking Ohio’s Buckeye Trail: A 1400 Mile Journey- November 15- Andy Niekamp
Circling Ohio, the Buckeye Trail runs right through Auglaize County on the Miami and Erie Canal. Andy, a seasoned hiker, started walking the Buckeye Trail in the spring of this year and finished 88 days later with pictures to share and stories to tell of his trail adventure.
